New DCU Projects ‘Lanterns’ and ‘Swamp Thing’ Set to Begin Production Next Year

Step by step, James Gunn’s new DC Universe is taking shape. Rumors are swirling about productions for ‘Lanterns’ and ‘Swamp Thing’ possibly starting next year, and it seems like things are really picking up momentum.

Lanterns‘ is an upcoming American TV series based on the DC Comics superhero team. It will be part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters in the DC Universe and is produced by DC Studios. The series will be released on Max. The cast includes Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, with actors for Hal Jordan and John Stewart yet to be confirmed. The series has gone through several changes, including shifting focus to the Green Lantern John Stewart. James Gunn has emphasized the importance of Green Lantern content in the DC Universe.

Swamp Thing‘ is an upcoming superhero film based on the DC Comics character. This character, created by writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson, is a humanoid/plant elemental creature. The character protects his swamp home and the environment from supernatural threats. Swamp Thing has had several adaptations in films, TV series, and video games. The new movie will be part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters in the DCU. Swamp Thing’s character gained great popularity during the 1970s and in the 1980s under Alan Moore’s acclaimed run.

Geoff Johns had originally worked on a Green Lantern Corps film, but plans shifted to a series for HBO Max. Seth Grahame-Smith was initially set to be the showrunner, with a ten-episode series produced by Berlanti Productions. The series will now focus more on John Stewart. Characters confirmed to appear include Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Alan Scott, Sinestro, and Kilowog.

The ‘Swamp Thing’ film will follow the story of this iconic DC character, who was first introduced in ‘House of Secrets’ in 1971. Swamp Thing has been portrayed in various media, with Derek Mears and Andy Bean playing the roles in the 2019 TV series. The new film will continue to explore the rich history and complex nature of this character.
