Nicolas Cage Takes on ‘Spider-Man Noir’ in MGM+ Series

Nicolas Cage is stepping back into the Spider-Man universe, but this time in a grittier and darker twist with the MGM+ spinoff series, Spider-Noir. New photos have surfaced showing Cage portraying a down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York.

The actor, dressed in a trench coat, is captured in various poses—kneeling and lying on the ground, seemingly evading an unseen threat. Despite the colored photos, the series promises to deliver the monochrome tones and moody aesthetics typical of classic film noir.

Spider-Noir sets itself apart by focusing on an older, more weathered version of the superhero. In this series, Cage’s character grapples with his past as the city’s sole superhero.

The show’s setting and style aim to revive the essence of film noir, blending it with the modern superhero narrative. Cage’s role as the private investigator aligns with his history of portraying eccentric and dynamic characters, making him an ideal fit for this darker, more complex role.

In the original comics, Spider-Man Noir is Peter Parker from Earth-90214, a version of New York City steeped in the shadows of noir. This version of Parker is known for his nocturnal antics as a vigilante who tackles organized crime and corruption.

He faces foes like Norman ‘The Goblin’ Osborn, Kraven, Vulture, and the Chameleon—characters reimagined as gritty, noir-style villains. This background may lead to some confusion among fans familiar with Cage’s voice role in the animated Into the Spider-Verse, expecting a continuation of the lighter, more fantastical storyline.

Supporting Cage in Spider-Noir are actors Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson and Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, and Amanda Schull in various recurring roles. Each brings a unique touch to the ensemble, promising a series rich with talent and intriguing character dynamics.

With its blend of traditional noir elements and superhero action, Spider-Noir looks to capture the essence of both worlds. Fans of Nicolas Cage and the Spider-Man franchise can look forward to a series that explores the deeper, darker corridors of a superhero’s life, all set against the backdrop of a stylized 1930s New York.
