Nicolas Cage to Star in Spider-Man Noir Live-Action Series for Prime Video

Nicolas Cage is officially set to star in the live-action ‘Spider-Man Noir’ series for Prime Video. Cage will once again play Spider-Man Noir, this time in a live-action show called ‘Noir’. The series has been ordered to series at MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video. It will debut on MGM+’s linear channel in the US and then launch globally on Prime Video. This announcement comes ahead of Amazon’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York.

The show will tell the story of an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who has to confront his past as the city’s only superhero. The show hails from Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They developed the series with the ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ team, including Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Henry Bradbeer will direct the first two episodes.

Amazon MGM Studios’ head of television, Vernon Sanders, expressed excitement about expanding the Marvel universe with this series. He praised Nicolas Cage as the ideal choice for this new superhero. Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, also shared her enthusiasm, highlighting Cage’s ability to bring depth to the character.

This series marks Cage’s first regular television role. He has been acclaimed for his film work, winning an Academy Award for ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ and earning a nomination for ‘Adaptation’. Cage is also known for his roles in ‘Moonstruck’, ‘Raising Arizona’, ‘Face/Off’, and the ‘National Treasure’ and ‘Ghost Rider’ films. His recent projects include ‘Pig’, ‘Dream Scenario’, and ‘Renfield’.

‘Spider-Man Noir’ is the second Sony-Marvel project greenlit at Amazon, following the announcement of ‘Silk: Spider Society’. Several other shows are in development, with Sony holding the rights to over 900 characters from the Spider-Man franchise. Sony has released multiple Spider-Man live-action films and works with Marvel Studios on the rebooted film series starring Tom Holland.

Other live-action films released by Sony include ‘Venom’ and its sequel, ‘Morbius’, and ‘Madame Web’. A third ‘Venom’ film is in the works, as well as a ‘Kraven the Hunter’ film starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
