IDW Publishing has hit the jackpot with their latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic. The newly launched TMNT #1 has already sold over 300,000 copies, even before its official release in July, as reported by AIPT. This makes it the top-selling comic of the year, overshadowing other big releases.

The relaunch celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Ninja Turtles franchise, which has seen some iconic stories in the past decade. The enthusiasm from readers has been overwhelming, with pre-sales suggesting this issue might climb even higher in numbers.

Jason Aaron wrote the story for TMNT #1, with Joรซlle Jones providing the art. Ronda Pattison did the coloring and Shawn Lee handled the lettering. This team has brought together a fresh and engaging narrative that starts with the Turtles scattered across the globe. The intrigue around how, when, and why they will reunite has certainly captured our attention.

The success of TMNT #1 has not only surpassed the launch of Thundercats #1, which earlier had a notable 170K+ sales, but has set a high benchmark for future comics this year. Jason Aaron expressed his gratitude, saying, ‘Thank you to all the retailers and we for believing in what weโ€™re cooking up with this new series and for supporting the book in such a massive way.’

With summer filled with events like pizza parties to celebrate both the new release and the anniversary, excitement is at an all-time high. We can’t wait to hold the book in our hands and dive into the adventures penned by Aaron, and brought to life by Jonesโ€™s stunning visuals.

IDW Publisher Mark Doyle mentioned that the success reflects the hard work of everyone involved, from the creative team to the staff and partners at Paramount. The series aims to add a compelling chapter to the legacy of the characters created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.

As we look ahead, the question remains how high will the sales for TMNT #1 go and what can we expect from the upcoming issues. With such a promising start, it’s clear that this relaunch is not just about nostalgia but about setting a new standard for storytelling in comic books.
