Paolo Montalban Joins the Cast of Disney+’s Original Movie ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’
Disney Branded Television’s highly anticipated musical franchise, “Descendants,” is back with its latest installment, “Descendants: The Rise of Red.” The movie features an all-star cast that includes Paolo Montalban, who will portray King Charming, Cinderella’s husband, and Chloe’s dad. Montalban is no stranger to the iconic Disney film “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” where he played Prince Charming opposite Brandy’s Cinderella in 1997.
The cast of “Descendants: The Rise of Red” also includes Kylie Cantrall as Red, Malia Baker as Chloe, Brandy as Cinderella, Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts, China Anne McClain as Uma, Dara Reneé as Uliana, Ruby Rose Turner as Bridget/Young Queen of Hearts, Morgan Dudley as Ella/Young Cinderella, Joshua Colley as Hook, Melanie Paxson as the Fairy Godmother, Jeremy Swift as Principal Merlin, and Leonardo Nam as Maddox Hatter.
“Descendants: The Rise of Red” will take audiences on an adventure through the magical world of Wonderland, made famous by “Alice in Wonderland.” The film follows the story of Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, Cinderella’s perfectionist daughter. When the tyrannical Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, Red and Chloe must join forces and travel back in time to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother on her villainous path.
The film is directed and co-executive produced by Jennifer Phang, a critically acclaimed filmmaker known for her work in “Advantageous,” “Half-Life,” “Foundation,” and “The Flight Attendant.” The script was written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer, while production designer Mark Hofeling returns to the franchise. Executive producers Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh lead the production team, and the casting directors are Alexis Frank Koczara and Christine Smith Shevchenko.
