Patrick Schwarzenegger Talks About Mr. Freeze Rumors Amid ‘The Batman: Part II’ Winter Setting Buzz
In a recent twist, director Matt Reeves revealed that the eagerly awaited sequel to ‘The Batman’ will be set in the chilly climes of winter, possibly around Christmas or New Year’s. This hint has sparked discussions and hopes among fans, particularly regarding the potential appearance of the villain Mr. Freeze. However, it appears this will remain mere speculation.
Following this revelation, actor Patrick Schwarzenegger, known for his role in ‘Gen V’, stirred the pot by posting, ‘The Iceman Cometh’. Given that Arnold Schwarzenegger—Patrick’s father and a major star—portrayed Mr. Freeze in the 1997 film ‘Batman and Robin’, this led to some fans speculating that Patrick might be taking up the frosty mantle. Yet, he quickly dismissed these rumors, responding with, ‘Nah haha but I wish!’
Despite fan excitement, Matt Reeves has made it clear that he’s not interested in bringing any fantastical villains into his version of Gotham. He envisions a more realistic setting for Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight, which likely excludes Dr. Victor Fries. So, while a fresh take on Mr. Freeze could be compelling, we probably shouldn’t hold our breath for his appearance.
In addition to dousing Mr. Freeze rumors, Reeves confirmed his commitment to completing the trilogy as originally planned, even in light of recent changes at DC Studios. Under the new leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, fans were concerned about potential shifts in direction.
Yet, Reeves intends to proceed as envisioned, which includes developing the story of The Penguin. In ‘The Batman’, The Penguin starts as a somewhat insignificant character, mocked and underestimated, far from the crime kingpin fans know from the comics. Reeves expressed his desire to explore these origin stories, setting the stage for subsequent films.
This development reaffirms Reeves’ dedication to his narrative vision, despite the evolving landscape of the DC cinematic universe. The establishment of the DCU and upcoming projects like ‘The Brave and the Bold’ suggest new interpretations of the Dark Knight, yet Reeves remains focused on the path he has charted for ‘The Batman’ and its sequels.
As we look forward to the unfolding saga in the gloomy, snow-draped streets of Gotham, it’s clear that the creative journey for Reeves and his team is as intriguing as the tales they aim to tell. Keep your eyes peeled, but maybe don’t bet on Mr. Freeze just yet.
