Post-Christmas Box Office Delivers Record Holiday Frame
The final weekend of 2025 marked the strongest post-pandemic Christmas period at the domestic box office. Seven films earned double-digit millions across diverse genres. Overall annual revenue reached $8.76 billion.
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ held the top spot in its second weekend with $64 million domestically. The threequel’s U.S. cumulative stood at $217 million. Global totals exceeded $760 million.
International earnings for the sequel added $181.2 million overseas. China contributed nearly $100 million. The Avatar franchise crossed $6 billion worldwide.
‘Zootopia 2’ became the first 2025 release to surpass $1 billion internationally. Overseas totals hit $1,099.5 million. Worldwide figures reached $1,420.9 million.
‘Marty Supreme’ expanded nationwide and grossed $17.4 million over the three-day frame. The four-day holiday total reached $27.1 million. The A24 title set a studio record for widest release.
Timothรฉe Chalamet’s performance drew 65% of audiences under age 35. Positive word-of-mouth supported the ping-pong drama’s debut.
‘Anaconda’ opened with $23 million domestically. The remake featured Jack Black and Paul Rudd. Updated effects attracted family and thrill audiences.
‘Song Sung Blue’ debuted to $12 million. The Focus Features musical starred Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman. Adult demographics responded to the Neil Diamond-inspired narrative.
‘David’ from Angel Studios earned $12.69 million. ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants’ added $11 million. Eclectic options fueled extended holiday turnout.
Projections indicated carryover strength into early 2026. Multiple territories showed increases for holdovers. China boosted several leading titles significantly.
