Season 2 of ‘The Penguin’ Could Happen, But There’s a Catch, Says Showrunner
Lauren LeFranc, the showrunner for HBO’s ‘The Penguin,’ shared insights about the possibility of a second season.
The first season, which consists of eight episodes, has been treated more like a limited series. This leaves fans wondering if there will be more to come.
According to LeFranc, speaking at New York Comic Con with The Direct’s Russ Milheim, a second season would only happen if they believe they can surpass the first season’s achievements.
She expressed deep care for the characters and the dark, humorous tone of the series, noting, ‘It’s been a joy to write them… I’d love to keep playing in it, but I think it just has to be the right thing. We should never do anything just to do it.’
However, a significant hurdle for continuing the series is the extensive prosthetic work required for Colin Farrell’s transformation into Oz Cobb, the titular character.
While Farrell was praised for his positive attitude and dedication, the process is challenging and taxing.
The reception to ‘The Penguin’ has been positive, with audiences emotionally connecting to the series.
Characters like Victor, Francis, and Sofia Falcone have resonated with viewers, each bringing depth and nuance to Gotham’s story.
Looking ahead, ‘The Penguin’ will not be the end of Farrell’s character in the universe, as he is set to return in ‘The Batman: Part II.’
Meanwhile, Matt Reeves is open to exploring more limited series within the Batman universe, potentially focusing on characters like Harvey Dent when introduced.
For now, the journey with characters like Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone in ‘The Penguin’ promises to extend beyond just the first season.
The show is currently streaming on Max, capturing fans with its mix of dark humor and complex characters.
