Shawn Levy’s Wild Pitch: A New Wolverine Variant to Maul Deadpool
Shawn Levy has become a prominent figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially after his work on the film Deadpool & Wolverine. Alongside stars like Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, Levy has shared details about a hilarious concept that didnโt make it into the movie. This idea involved a literal wolverineโthe animalโmaking an appearance, which would have provided a great laugh for us watching.
During a discussion with Josh Horowitz, Levy mentioned his plan to introduce this wolverine variant. He explained that in a key sequence, Deadpool would traverse the multiverse to find different versions of Wolverine. These included Old Man Logan, Comic accurate Wolverine, Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, and even Henry Cavill.
However, the scene with the actual wolverine was ultimately dropped because they thought of it too late to create a convincing digital version of the animal. Levy humorously noted that the animal wolverine would have attacked Deadpool in the scene. Heโs keeping this gag in mind, possibly for a sequel.
Deadpool & Wolverine is still playing in theaters, and it features Deadpool teaming up with various versions of Wolverine from different universes. Itโs a fun concept that plays well with Deadpoolโs quirky nature. Levyโs direction brings out the best in Deadpool, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds, known for his comedic timing.
The filmโs success points to Levy potentially leading more projects within this franchise. Despite a challenging year for the studio in 2023, Deadpool & Wolverine stands out as a profitable venture. Thereโs even talk about Levy directing other major films before two upcoming Avengers projects, thanks to the significant revenue heโs generated.
Deadpoolโs character works well with others from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). I think it would be interesting to see him alongside characters like Spider-Man and She-Hulk. While a crossover with Tom Hollandโs Spider-Man might not be on the cards, Andrew Garfieldโs version seems like a good match. She-Hulk could also be a great partner for Deadpool, leading to some entertaining fourth wall-breaking moments.
In short, Shawn Levyโs behind-the-scenes revelations and the ongoing success of Deadpool & Wolverine highlight how much fun the Marvel Cinematic Universe can be when it mixes humor with superhero action. We might even get to see that animal Wolverine in a future installment, which would definitely be a scene worth waiting for.
