Lucasfilm and Disney+ are gearing up for their new series, “Skeleton Crew,” as “The Acolyte” nears its conclusion. This new installment will explore a group of young children’s journey across the universe, echoing the style of classic Amblin films. Director Lee Isaac Chung, in a conversation with GamesRadar+ during his interview for “Twisters,” shared his excitement for the series. He highlighted that the show will offer a fresh, youthful view into the Star Wars saga, largely influenced by Jon Watts’ unique storytelling style.

Chung expressed his immediate interest in joining the project after reading the script and viewing the initial designs by Watts. He appreciated the opportunity to work alongside talented individuals such as Jude Law and other notable cast members, emphasizing the joy and creativity on set.

“Skeleton Crew” will trace the adventure of four kids from a forest-covered world. These youngsters stumble upon a mysterious discovery on their home planet that sends them across the galaxy, trying to find their way back home. This happens during the same timeline as “Star Wars: The Mandalorian.” Their space journey introduces them to various new creatures and challenges, including pirates and a heroic figure named Law, who helps them after his own escape from captivity.

The series cast features Jude Law, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kerry Condon, Robert Timothy Smith, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Tunde Adebimpel, and Jaleel White. Alongside Chung and Watts, directors such as David Lowery, Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert, Jake Schreier, and Bryce Dallas Howard will direct the series’ eight episodes.

With a strong focus on youthful adventures and experiences, “Skeleton Crew” aims to connect with families, encouraging them to enjoy the series together. The approach is to blend the wonder of childhood with the expansive Star Wars universe, promising a unique experience we haven’t seen before in the franchise.

Set for a late 2024 release on Disney+, “Skeleton Crew” is gearing up to be a captivating addition to the Star Wars lineage. Meanwhile, Chung’s “Twisters” is about to hit US theaters on July 19.
