SnyderVerse & Henry Cavill Fans Slam New DCU Superman Suit
Recently leaked photos have given us our first good look at the latest Superman costume, worn by David Corenswet while filming the new DCU reboot directed by James Gunn. The reactions from us and other moviegoers have been mixed, with opinions ranging widely on social media.
Starting with the good stuff, some of us really like that the new suit isn’t about showing off muscles but it’s clear that David is still a big guy. Someone said on X/Twitter, ‘David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan look amazing on the SUPERMAN set. Perfect casting!’ It’s clear that many think the new suit is a great modern take on the classic design that’s been loved in the comics and by Christopher Reeve in the 1978 film. Some fans have even called the new design ‘perfection.’
However, not everyone is happy, especially long-time fans of Henry Cavill and the SnyderVerse. They’ve been quite vocal about their disappointment. One fan even compared the new suit to a ‘Halloween costume’ and called it a ‘huge downgrade’ from what we saw with Henry Cavill. There’s a strong feeling of a missed opportunity among these fans.
The new movie, written and directed by James Gunn, aims to blend Superman’s Kryptonian background with his upbringing as Clark Kent from Smallville, Kansas. The film emphasizes traditional values like truth, justice, and kindness in a world where these ideals can often seem dated.
The cast for this reboot includes not just Corenswet and Brosnahan, but also Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, among others. It’s a fresh start for the DCU, with the new Superman film setting the stage for upcoming projects like Batman: The Brave and the Bold and a Wonder Woman prequel series.
The film is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. It seems we’re in for quite a journey with this new portrayal of the beloved superhero. Whether you love or hate the new suit, it’s definitely starting conversations. What do you think about it?
