Spider-Man Clone Ben Reilly Makes a Twisted Entrance in Ultimate Universe
The Ultimate Universe has spun a new web around Spider-Man’s clone saga, bringing in the infamous Ben Reilly in a unique twist. Back in the 1990s, the original ‘Clone Saga’ rattled fans with the bombshell that Peter Parker had a clone, Ben Reilly, who many thought was the real Peter. The saga grew even more convoluted when another clone, Kaine Parker, also known as the Scarlet Spider, entered the mix.
In ‘Ultimate Spider-Man #10’, crafted by Jonathan Hickman, David Messina, Matthew Wilson, and VC’s Cory Petit, the focus isn’t just on superhero antics but dives into a gritty investigation.

Ben Parker and J. Jonah Jameson dig into some shady dealings involving the sale of Stane/Stark Industries, tracing a web of secrets back to Oscorp. When they confront Gwen Stacy, now Harry Osborn’s wife, things get heated, and she doesn’t hold back her words.
Their investigation leads them to Harry Osborn, who reveals that he’s been using his corporate power as the Green Goblin to fight crime covertly. But the plot thickens as Harry uncovers that the real mastermind is The Maker, who’s manipulated their world from behind the scenes.
Despite the risks, Harry hands over crucial information to Ben and Jonah, urging them to publish their findings under a pseudonym for safety.
Choosing a name to keep their identities hidden, they land on Ben Reilly, which is not just any name. Ben Reilly was first introduced as a clone of Peter Parker, created by the villain Miles Warren, aka the Jackal.
This clone, who took on the identity of the Scarlet Spider in a blue hoodie, once believed he was the real Peter Parker, leading to a major shake-up in Spider-Man’s life. Despite his heroic deeds, his life was marred by multiple deaths and resurrections, which fractured his psyche.
Recently, the Spider-Man Beyond era reintroduced Ben Reilly as Spider-Man, under the manipulation of the Beyond Corporation, transforming him into the villainous Chasm.
This darker twist in his saga saw him ally with Madelyne Pryor against the X-Men and Spider-Man in the explosive ‘Dark Web’ event. His storyline continues in ‘Chasm: Curse of Kaine’, where his fate will collide with fellow clone Kaine Parker.
Ben Reilly’s journey from hero to villain and back again has been a wild ride, and now his name is once again central in the Ultimate Spider-Man series. It remains to be seen how his legacy will evolve, and whether he will ever cross paths with Peter Parker. Will they be allies or enemies? Only time will tell in the twisting tales of the Ultimate Universe.
