Star Wars Enthusiasts Rally Behind Wookieepedia Amid ‘The Acolyte’ Controversy
Recently, ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has been under fire due to a cameo appearance by Ki-Adi-Mundi in the show’s fourth episode, ‘Day’. This episode sparked debates over the character’s age since it suggests he was alive around a century before the events of ‘Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace’.
Fans voiced concerns that this cameo contradicts established details about his age from earlier sources. Despite George Lucas previously changing some details about the character, such as his lightsaber color, and Disney rendering earlier sources non-canon in 2014, the update on Wookieepedia about Ki-Adi-Mundi’s timeline led to a backlash.
Wookieepedia, the franchise’s popular wiki, faced severe criticism and even received death threats to its editors and their pets after updating its page to include Ki-Adi-Mundi’s appearance. The site strongly responded by stating, ‘If your response to an editor adding a date to an article on Wookieepedia is to tell them you hope they and their pets die, you are not a Star Wars fan. Hate like that has no place here, and you are not welcome in our community.’ This message highlights the tension between maintaining a beloved fictional universe’s continuity and the toxic behavior sometimes displayed by fans.
We, the Star Wars community, are standing with Wookieepedia, pushing back against the hostility. Many of us showed our support on social media, making #WeStandWithWookipedia trend. Fans like @DrengirLord and @svrspr on X expressed their disdain for the hateful actions, emphasizing that such behavior is a childish response to a small change in a fictional narrative. They praised Wookieepedia’s dedication and important role in the community.
Furthermore, user @bordon26 on X pointed out that updates to canon are routine for Wookieepedia, which has always been diligent in discussing changes, even on the Star Wars Legends page. Instead of threats, these hard-working editors deserve our gratitude and praise.
As we continue to enjoy ‘The Acolyte’ with new episodes releasing every Tuesday on Disney+, it’s uplifting to see our community come together to support those who contribute to enriching our understanding and enjoyment of the Star Wars universe. Despite the challenges, the solidarity shown by the fans is a reminder of what makes our community special.
