Superman’s New Suit Stirs Up Fan Debate
James Gunn’s latest ‘Superman’ film is shooting in Cleveland, now standing in as the bustling city of Metropolis. The movie set has leaked some exciting details, giving us a peek at Superman’s new outfit, Lois Lane, and other characters like Mr. Terrific.
When we first saw Superman’s costume, it wasn’t exactly a hit. Many joked about its baggy look and the odd way Superman was standing during what seemed like an alien invasion. Now that we’ve seen it in broad daylight, on an actual person, I think it looks way better. Despite this improvement, it’s still getting a lot of flak. Critics are calling it cheap, and some are even comparing it to something you’d see on a CW show. That’s a bit harsh, especially since the outfits on ‘Superman & Lois,’ starring Tyler Hoechlin, are pretty good.
The suit on David Corenswet, who plays Superman, is a mix of old and new. It keeps some traditional elements like the red trunks, yellow belt, and the famous curl of hair. But it also adds some modern flares inspired by Jim Lee’s artwork from the New 52 series—things like a high collar and detailed lines, making it look a bit more like armor.
We have also asked fans what they think about the suit, is it an upgrade or a downgrade from Cavill’s suit, so you can check the answers here:
James Gunn had said a while back that Alex Ross’s iconic ‘Kingdom Come’ artwork would play a big part in designing the film’s visuals, including the Superman suit.
It’s interesting to see how we react to changes in such iconic outfits. Some of us were hoping for a classic Christopher Reeve look, while others appreciate the newer, armored style. It’s all about finding that balance between respecting the past and embracing the future of Superman’s legacy.
