‘The Acolyte’ Episode 7 Turns Heroes Into Villains
Episode 7 of ‘The Acolyte’ reveals a darker side of the Jedi, shifting them from heroes to villains. This episode, called ‘Choice,’ takes us back to Brendok, unveiling the Jedi’s questionable actions.
The Jedi team, led by Master Indara and including Master Sol and Torbin, her Padawan, claims they’re conducting important research. However, their presence on Brendok soon leads to trouble. They are looking for a ‘Force Vergence,’ which could explain life thriving on a planet thought lifeless after a disaster. But their mission isn’t just scientific. They’re also interested in two local children, Mae and Osha, who display unique Force abilities.
Master Sol becomes too attached to Osha and disregards Jedi principles to make her his Padawan. This leads him to take drastic actions, including an attempt to take the girls away from their home without approval from the Jedi Council. His actions spiral out of control when he chooses to save only Osha during a crisis, showing a selfish streak that we wouldn’t expect from a Jedi.
The episode ends on a grim note. The Jedi fabricate a story to cover up their misdeeds, pinning a tragic fire on Mae. This lie is meant to protect their reputation but at a great cost to those involved.
This portrayal of the Jedi as flawed and morally ambiguous is quite a departure from their usual depiction as paragons of virtue. We’re left wondering about the true nature of the heroes we’ve followed for so long. Could they really be the villains in disguise?
As the season nears its end, ‘The Acolyte’ challenges us to reconsider everything we thought we knew about the Jedi. With only one episode left, there are still many questions about how deep the deception goes and what it means for Mae and Osha’s future.
