Here’s How ‘The Acolyte’ Links Osha to Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and More Star Wars Icons

In episode six of ‘The Acolyte’, Qimir tries to sway Osha to the dark side by having her wear a cortosis helmet, a move that could have significant implications for her future. Unlike typical Jedi training gear, this helmet, effective against lightsabers, acts as a sensory deprivation tool, echoing back to the dark and pivotal locations in the Star Wars saga.

Qimir tells Osha that inside the helmet, it’s just her and the Force, and what she brings with her. This concept is reminiscent of the advice Yoda gave Luke Skywalker before he entered the Cave of Evil on Dagobah. It’s a place steeped in the dark side, where Luke faced a vision of Darth Vader which turned into his own face, hinting at a possible dark future.

Similarly, Kylo Ren, who has many parallels with Qimir, faced his own relatives in a vision while training under Snoke. His inability to destroy the vision of his parents played a crucial role in his fate. The death of Han Solo, Kylo Ren’s father, on Starkiller Base allowed him to gain more power, a twist of fate that might not have happened without his experiences in the cave.

Rey also faced her dark side challenges in the mirror cave on Ahch-To, where the original Jedi Order was founded. Despite the cave’s allure, Rey emerged without succumbing to the dark side, even when Kylo Ren offered her a chance to rule the galaxy.

Anakin Skywalker, too, was shown a vision of his potential dark future on Mortis, a key Force-centric planet. Although he didn’t stay to take over as the leader, which could have prevented him from becoming Darth Vader, the vision was a critical moment in his path.

When Osha dons Qimir’s helmet, she’s unknowingly walking a path trodden by many before her, including Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. What she brings into that helmet and what she takes out could determine her fate. The echoing sound of her breathing inside the helmet is a chilling reminder of Darth Vader’s iconic mechanical breath.

Lucasfilm has intricately woven these connections throughout ‘The Acolyte’, showing us how past events and characters continue to influence the new stories being told. We might not know what future Osha will choose, but her journey is closely linked to the legends of the Star Wars universe.
