‘The Acolyte’ Showrunner Teases Season 2
Leslye Headland, the showrunner of ‘The Acolyte’, hinted at the possibility of a second season during a recent interview with Nerdist, despite the show not yet receiving an official go-ahead for more episodes. The series, which debuted on Disney Plus, explores a dark period about 100 years before ‘The Phantom Menace’. It follows characters such as Mae, Osha (Amandla Stenberg), and Sol (Lee Jung-jae) as they unravel Jedi murders by a dark force-user.
With only one episode left in the first season, Headland shared that discussions about continuing the story are happening, but thereโs no confirmation on when or if it will take place. She expressed, ‘I have no idea. Well, not that I have no idea. I would say there are conversations. And I donโt know when that will happen. I donโt know when that decision will be made.’
Critics have mostly praised ‘The Acolyte’, as seen by its 81% Rotten Tomatoes critics score. However, the audience hasn’t been as enthusiastic, partly due to review bombing, which has brought its audience score down to 14%. This disparity makes it hard to gauge the show’s true reception.
Nielsen data reveals that ‘The Acolyte’ has one of the lower viewership rates among Star Wars series on Disney Plus, only surpassing ‘Andor’. Despite this, ‘Andor’ is set to have a second season, mostly due to its critical acclaim and planned two-season arc, set to conclude in 2025.
Given these mixed signals, it’s crucial that the season finale of ‘The Acolyte’ both wraps up the current story effectively and leaves room for potential future plots. This way, if a season two does happen, there are still threads to explore. An official announcement about the future of ‘The Acolyte’ might not be made for a while, so we’ll have to stay tuned and see how it all unfolds.
