‘The Boys’ Season 4 Episode 6 Review: Prime Video Series Crawls Toward Climax
‘The Boys’ Season 4 Episode 6 on Prime Video, titled ‘Dirty Business,’ displays a slow burn as it inches towards an explosive climax, revealing some crucial twists. This episode brings to light the series’ weaknesses as it prepares for its endgame, although it manages to hold our interest with key plot developments.
Tek Knight hosts a gathering to secure backing for Homelander and Sister Sage’s plan to take over the U.S., setting the stage for The Boys to conduct a covert operation. The mission is to plant bugs and gather intel, but it quickly derails, especially for Hughie, who finds himself in an uncomfortable and dark scenario.
Meanwhile, Butcher is upstate, harshly interrogating Victoria Neuman’s lab technician to produce a virus capable of killing Homelander. The stakes are high, as the virus could potentially eliminate all Supes, presenting Butcher with a grave ethical dilemma.
We also discover that Butcher is sicker than we thought. The reveal that Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character, Joe Kessler, is just a hallucination adds a deeper layer to Butcher’s already complex character.
The episode throws another curveball with the revelation of Homelander and Sage’s plan to use Tek Knightโs private prisons to detain political dissenters. It’s a chilling development that adds depth to the plot and reminds us of the series’ darker themes.
Despite some segments that try too hard to shock or amuseโlike Hughie’s distressing experience in Tek Knight’s mansionโthe episode cleverly sets up the board for the upcoming showdowns. With titles like ‘The Insider’ and ‘Assassination Run’ up next, the show promises to deliver an action-packed conclusion to this season.
While the series sometimes feels like itโs treading water with repetitive satire and shock tactics, the engaging storyline keeps us tuned in. I’m looking forward to seeing how Butcher’s plan to confront Homelander unfolds and how the fates of all the characters we’ve grown to follow will wrap up in this and the next season. The slow start of this episode notwithstanding, the anticipation of an amazing finish is undeniable.
