‘The Penguin’ Second Trailer: Dive Into the Dark Streets of Gotham with Colin Farrell
Max has just unveiled a fresh trailer for its new series ‘The Penguin’, offering a deeper look into the gritty world and characters of this DC crime drama. The series is a spinoff from the 2022 film ‘The Batman’, which also starred Colin Farrell. He returns to his role as the notorious Gotham City criminal mastermind. The latest footage shows events that seem to continue right where ‘The Batman’ left off.
‘The Penguin’ sees the character, formerly a lieutenant under the late crime boss Carmine Falcone, ascending to take control of Gotham’s underworld. It appears the show might give us a DC-flavored version of a crime family drama akin to ‘The Sopranos’. The series is steered by Lauren LeFranc, known for her work on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, serving as the showrunner.
The show falls under the production of DC Studios and Warner Bros., directed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, both ‘The Penguin’ and ‘The Batman’ exist in a standalone universe labeled ‘Elseworlds’, which references alternative universe tales in the DC Comics. Recently, when asked about the screenplay for the next installment, James Gunn remarked on social media that it would be ready “When Matt thinks it’s ready!”
‘The Penguin’ is packed with a star-studded cast including Cristin Milioti, Michael Kelly, Clancy Brown, and Theo Rossi, alongside Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, James Madio, and others in key roles. Executive producers for the series include notable names such as Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, and others, with Craig Zobel directing.
This fall, ‘The Penguin’ will premiere, bridging the gap for us until more from Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ universe arrives. The release of ‘The Batman Part II’ has been pushed back to October 2026. This new series promises to be an exciting continuation for all of us eager to dive deeper into the dark corners of Gotham City.
