Trouble Brewing for Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars Project

There’s talk again that the upcoming Star Wars movie featuring Daisy Ridley might be in jeopardy. Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, this marks the fourth instance rumors have swirled about potential delays or cancellations.

The latest whisper comes from Daniel RPK, who hints that the movie needs more work before it can proceed, putting it on hold with no filming expected until 2025. The news doesn’t come as a shock to many, as previous setbacks under Kathleen Kennedy’s leadership at Lucasfilm have set a precedent for such disruptions.

Further complicating matters, back in May, World of Reel reported a pause on the project by Disney CEO Bob Iger. Simultaneously, Empire City Box Office on X claimed the project was completely scrapped by Iger, who had already voiced plans to scale back on Star Wars content.

Adding to the project’s woes, World of Reel shared that there were numerous issues plaguing the film, to the extent that writer Steven Knight was contemplating exiting the project. Interestingly, at a recent appearance at The Royal Television Society’s London Convention, Knight made no mention of his involvement with Star Wars, fueling further speculation about the film’s fate.

Also, the reception to ‘THE ACOLYTE’ has cast a long shadow over the studio’s plans. Following its cancellation due to poor audience reception, LucasFilm has been forced to reevaluate and significantly alter its future projects and strategic direction. This shift reflects a broader rethinking within the company on how best to proceed with the Star Wars franchise, suggesting that more changes could be on the horizon as they aim to realign with audience expectations.

To add to the movie’s challenges, Warner Bros has slated ‘Dune 3’ for release on December 18, 2026, which is the same date rumored for Ridley’s Star Wars film. This scheduling clash hints at dwindling confidence in the project’s realization.

Despite the continued fan enthusiasm for Ridley and her character, Rey, the repeated hiccups in the production of this Star Wars saga suggest a grim outlook. As fans, we’re left wondering if this much-anticipated return will ever make it to the big screen or if it will remain a part of the vast universe of what-could-have-been.
