Wesley Snipes Responds as Fans Demand Cancellation of Mahershala Ali’s Blade Reboot

There’s a storm brewing over the future of Mahershala Ali’s Blade reboot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite a big announcement back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con about Ali starring as the iconic vampire hunter, the movie has hit several snags. From director changes to script rewrites, it’s been a rocky road. The question on everyone’s mind is whether the film will stick to its planned November 2025 release or face further delays.

Wesley Snipes, the original Blade actor, recently reacted to fans who are so frustrated they want the project canceled. He found humor in the situation, sharing a post on Instagram with a headline from an article suggesting his return to the role instead of Ali. His response? ‘Y’all, crazy! hahaha.’

But it’s not all jokes. After Yann Demange stepped away as director, the second to leave, there’s been no news of a replacement. With the screenplay still unfinished and the start of principal photography up in the air, it might not even begin until late 2024 or early 2025.

In a recent interview, Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios gave some hope. He mentioned that the latest draft of the Blade screenplay was shaping up well, but emphasized the studio’s dedication to getting it right before pushing forward. Feige made it clear that they won’t rush the movie into production.

Mia Goth, rumored to play the lead villain in earlier script versions, is reportedly still tied to the project. Her involvement suggests that some of the original casting choices remain in place despite the production setbacks.

If a new director isn’t found by the end of next year, it’s almost certain the release will be pushed to at least 2026. Marvel has two other untitled projects slated for that year, which might be perfect backup slots if Blade isn’t ready.

We hope to hear more updates this fall, which should help clarify whether Blade will carve its spot in The Multiverse Saga on time or get delayed further.
