Wesley Snipes Throws Shade as Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Reboot Hits Another Bump

Wesley Snipes, the original star of the 1998 Blade movie, recently made a playful jab on Twitter about Marvel’s ongoing difficulties in rebooting the film. The project hit another setback this month with the departure of Yann Demange, the latest director to leave. Demange is known for his work on ‘White Boy Rick’ and ‘Top Boy’. This follows after Bassam Tariq, known for ‘Mogul Mowgli’, had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts.

Snipes tweeted, ‘Blade, lordylordylordy,’ with a side-eye emoji, adding, ‘Folks still lookin for the secret sauce, ridin snowmobiles in traffic, kinda rough. Daywalkers make it look easy, don’t they?’ This hints at the challenges the new team is facing compared to his time as the vampire-hunting hero.

Back in the late ’90s, Snipes portrayed Blade, a vampire-human hybrid who dedicates his life to hunting vampires. The plot centers on Blade’s quest to thwart Deacon Frost, played by Stephen Dorff, who aims to awaken the blood god La Magra to eliminate humanity. Snipes’ character has a personal vendetta against vampires because one attacked his pregnant mother, leading to her death during his birth.

The original film was a box office hit, earning over $131 million globally and led to two sequels directed by Guillermo del Toro and David S. Goyer. At that time, New Line Cinema distributed the film, as Marvel Studios didn’t acquire the rights to the character until August 2012.

Mahershala Ali is set to star as Blade in the upcoming reboot. He first voiced the character in a post-credits scene in ‘Eternals’, questioning whether Kit Harington’s character, Dane Whitman, is prepared to handle the Ebony Blade. The cast also includes Delroy Lindo, John West Jr., Milan Ray, and Mia Goth.

Despite aiming for a November 7, 2025 release, the future of Marvel’s Blade seems uncertain. We’ll keep you updated on any new developments. Meanwhile, we’re all eager to see how Phase 5 of the Marvel universe unfolds.
