‘X-Men ’97’ Gets a New Writer for Season 3
Matthew Chauncey, known for his work on ‘What If…?’ and ‘Ms. Marvel,’ and as a script doctor for the 2022 film ‘Thor: Love & Thunder,’ is the new creative force behind Season 3 of ‘X-Men ’97.’ This Disney+ series revives the beloved ’90s animation. The news comes from Deadline. Chauncey steps in after Beau DeMayo, who had shaped the first two seasons before parting ways with Marvel.
The series has seen impressive success, pulling in 4 million views for the first two episodes alone. Its finale even snagged 3.5 million views, setting a record on Disney+ for the most-watched animated series finale since ‘What If…?’—which Chauncey also contributed to. Clearly, his unique storytelling style is something we can look forward to in the X-Men universe.
Season 2 is currently under production with some tweaks to the scripts, while Season 3 is in the planning stages. Chauncey will collaborate with director Jake Castorena, who has been involved from the beginning. The original show’s producers, Larry Houston and Eric and Julia Lewald, are staying on as consulting producers, ensuring the show remains true to its roots.
Set in the iconic ’90s, ‘X-Men ’97’ revisits the era where the X-Men, mutants with extraordinary abilities, protect a world that fears them. They are now facing a new and unexpected future, one that promises to challenge them more than ever.
The voice cast brings familiar and new voices, including Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, and Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm. Other voices include Cal Dodd’s Wolverine, JP Karliak’s Morph, Lenore Zann’s Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou’s Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.
With such a strong team both on and off the screen, it’s clear that ‘X-Men ’97’ is gearing up to bring us more thrilling adventures. As a fan, I’m excited to see where Chauncey takes our favorite mutants in the upcoming season. Stay tuned!
