Zack Snyder Scores With ‘Twilight of the Gods’
After a mixed bag of critical responses to his previous works, Zack Snyder seems to have turned the tide with his latest series on Netflix, ‘Twilight of the Gods’. The series, an adult animated tale rooted in Norse mythology, launched simultaneously with its reviews, which have largely been positive.
The show is a collaboration between Stone Quarry Animation and Xilam Animation, known for ‘Oggy and the Cockroaches’, among others. ‘Twilight of the Gods’ marks another venture for Snyder on Netflix following the less well-received ‘Rebel Moon’ movies. Unlike his past projects which often struggled to win over critics, this series appears to be changing his fortunes.
Critics have mostly praised the series for its animation style, effective world-building, and the performances of its voice actors. The action scenes, noted for their intensity and gore, along with a fair amount of graphic sexual content, have also been highlighted. However, for some, the show might have slightly overdone these elements.
The voice cast boasts some impressive names. Sylvia Hoeks voices SIGRID, and alongside her are Stuart Martin as LEIF, Pilou Asbæk as THOR, and John Noble as ODIN. Other notable actors include Paterson Joseph as LOKI, Rahul Kohli as EGILL, and Jamie Clayton as THE SEID-KONA. Kristopher Hivju, Peter Stormare, Jamie Chung, Lauren Cohan, and Corey Stoll also lend their voices to key characters, enriching the mythological narrative.
For those concerned about content, the series holds a TV-MA rating due to explicit language, nudity, sexual content, and smoking.
I recommend giving ‘Twilight of the Gods’ a watch and staying tuned as we await more updates, including its Rotten Tomatoes score. This series might just be the hit Snyder needed, proving once again that he has a unique vision for storytelling, especially when it comes to reimagining ancient myths through modern animation.
