‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Faces Backlash for Ignoring MCU’s Celestial Plot Hole
The excitement for the upcoming ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ movie is high, especially with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman teaming up again. But, despite the anticipation, there’s a shadow hanging over its release. The film is the latest to overlook a big issue in the MCU — the unaddressed Celestial body sticking out of the ocean.
In ‘Eternals’, we saw the Celestial Tiamut turned to stone and trapped in the ocean. Since then, its massive presence has been mostly ignored in subsequent MCU films, including the seven released after ‘Eternals’. The only small mention came in the ‘She-Hulk’ series on Disney+, which hardly scratched the surface of this unresolved issue.
Fans hoped this upcoming film would address it, but the trailer suggests otherwise. It feels like we’re set for disappointment, as this plot hole might remain unexplored yet again. This has sparked a lot of discussions among fans about why such a massive element is repeatedly overlooked. Could it be that the studio is hoping we’ll just forget about ‘The Eternals’?
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, yeah, yeah, yeah, Let’s Fucking Go and all that, but all I really wanna know is will this be the *eighth* MCU movie to ignore this giant thing sticking out of the Earth. pic.twitter.com/tOTJY61yud

Some of the fans think that with everything that’s happened in the MCU, from Norse gods to massive alien battles, maybe people in that universe are starting to see bizarre occurrences as normal. Still, it’s a bit hard to overlook a giant stone hand sticking out of the ocean.
There’s a 100% chance this gets mentioned by Deadpool.

Or, you know, after Nordic gods descending on Earth, aliens invading New York and half of all life literally disappearing for 5 years, the people might sort of just go with it at that point.

It's a core part of Thunderbolts

Despite these criticisms, the film does promise exciting elements like the inclusion of the TVA and Cassandra Nova as the villain. And, as expected from Deadpool, we might at least get a witty remark about this ongoing oversight.
With ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ set to release on July 26, 2024, and rumors of ‘Thunderbolts’ possibly featuring the Celestial hand more prominently, there’s a sliver of hope that Marvel hasn’t completely abandoned this plot line. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll finally give us some answers in the upcoming films. Until then, we’ll have to wait and see if the MCU acknowledges the elephant, or rather, the giant hand in the room.
