Robert Downey Jr. recently hinted he’s open to reprising his role as Iron Man, a statement that has left Avengers: Endgame directors, the Russo Brothers, somewhat baffled. Speaking at the Sands: International Film Festival in Scotland, the duo expressed their doubts about reopening Iron Man’s story, which they had concluded in Endgame. Joe Russo noted that they had ‘closed that book‘, and bringing Tony Stark back would be a challenging task that’s up to future filmmakers.

Downey’s comments came during an interview with Esquire, where he said he’d happily return to the role, which feels like a part of his DNA. He also praised Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, emphasizing that betting against him is a losing game.

GamesRadar+ reported these details from the film festival, capturing the filmmakers’ surprise and reflections on the situation. There are currently no public plans to bring Iron Man back to the big screen, but Downey’s willingness to return keeps the door open for speculation.

Aside from his potential MCU comeback, Downey is enjoying a high point in his career, having won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The Russos praised his performance and noted that his Oscar win is a well-deserved milestone in his career, highlighting his hard work and dedication.

Looking ahead, the Russo Brothers are busy with their upcoming film, The Electric State, and they also shared some thoughts on the 10th anniversary of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Their next projects and reflections will be featured in an ongoing series of interviews on our website throughout the week.
